The heavy rain on Sunday (14/12/2025) and in the early hours of Monday (15/12/2025) has caused river levels to rise, peaking in Cockermouth at 05:30AM on Monday. Locations most affected will be the rivers Cocker and Derwent at Cockermouth, Cricket Ground, Trout Hotel and Market Street Car Parks, Hatters Croft. Floodgates have been closed. We continue to monitor the situation and will open floodgates when the water level recedes. Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water . This message will be updated by 17:00 on 15 December 2025 or as the situation changes.
