Rivers Brathay, Rothay and Winster


Heavy rainfall this morning and early this afternoon has caused rising river levels which may lead to flooding of land and road. Flooding is possible from 14:00 PM today,15/09/2025. Areas most at risk include Rivers Brathay, Rothay and Winster and other watercourses, from Grasmere to Grange-over-Sands including low lying areas around Ambleside, Skelwith Bridge, Windermere, Hawkshead, Newby Bridge, Backbarrow, Cark and Cartmel. Persistent heavy showers are expected to continue throughout the afternoon and overnight. Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water. This message will be updated by 10:00 AM on 16/09/2025, or as the situation changes.
