High groundwater levels may lead to flooding.
Flooding is possible from 31/01/2026, after above average rainfall in January.
Springs will appear, water will be in fields, and small amounts of water could flood down roads near Chilgrove and East Dean. Groundwater at Chilgrove borehole is expected to pause rising around the 01/02/2026. However, small amounts of rain are forecast Friday and Saturday. More rain is suggested next week. If further rain occurs next week, then by 08/02/2026 more water will flow along roads, and groundwater could begin to affect the ability of the sewage network to operate in East Dean, Charlton, Singleton and West Dean, and may start to appear in a small number of basements.
We are closely monitoring the situation , including rainfall, groundwater and forecasts.
Don't put yourself or others at risk . Avoid roads that flood (West Dean, East Dean). Ensure pumps work.
This message will be updated by 6:00PM on 02 February 2026 or as the situation changes.
